Electronic Technology Professor María Ángeles Martín receives the Ada Byron Award

04/26/2018 |<img src=' http://www.ik4.es/upload/noticias/img/IMG_4900_opt.jpg' data-link=""' /> María Ángeles Martín Prats, full professor of Seville University’s Electronic Engineering department, received the Ada Byron Award for female technologists granted by Deusto University last 26 April. Bestowed for five years running now, the prizes are sponsored by the IK4 Technological Alliance.

The scientist reaped this acknowledgement in a ceremony held against the setting of the 6th edition of FOROTECH, the week Deusto devotes to Engineering and Technology, which took place in Bilbao from 25 to 27 April.

Martín Prats has formed part of the TC-109 research team of Seville University’s Electronic Technology Group since 1996. The scientist has a solid track record in the fields of power electronics and electronic systems applied to aeronautics.

Martín Prats’s influence in promoting female scientific vocation has been so relevant that in barely five years, the number of women taking Aerial Navigation in Seville increased from 15% to 60%, the benchmark reason she was chosen by the Global Council of Deans of Engineering in her efforts to attract female students to these courses.

In prior Ada Byron editions, the women awarded for their achievements in the technological sphere were: Montserrat Meya, a linguist specialised in IT languages; Asunción Gómez, an Informatics PhD and one of the most internationally renowned researchers in the so-called semantic technologies; Nuria Oliver, Telefónica’s R+D director; and Regina Llopis, a University of California (USA) Berkeley campus PhD in mathematics applied to artificial intelligence.

The IK4 Technological Alliance, which also sponsors FOROTECH, provides support for these awards in its bid to promote initiatives and projects oriented towards bringing society at large and the youth in particular closer to science and technology, with special emphasis on visibility and acknowledgement for women’s contributions to research and innovation.
