The member Centres of the Alliance are structured hierarchically into Units, basically defined by technological specialization. Below is the the IK4 specialization map showing how the 8 IK4 units which have been set up cover the whole of the Alliance's body of research. This high level of specialization by Centre demands a high degree of cooperation between the research teams of the Centres.
The technology units cover the full range of activities, from basic research to the development of prototypes of new products. On occasions, medium and long term objectives are presented which are closer to basic research, and on others, the Alliance adopts a very specific objective which is tied to the requirement of a given client.
This high degree of specialization into technology units allows us to generate added value for the companies in the form of products and services for a very wide range of sectors, from automotive to biomedicine, and including machine-tools and the audiovisual sector.
