Method 1: Stop the service

The cryptographic service ensures that TSL/SSL certificates are working and authenticated correctly, and is also involved in the software installation and update process. The service is important and necessary, but in some cases it can cause problems, overloading the hard drive. In this case it can be stopped temporarily.

  1. Press Win + REnter the following command in the dialog that opens services.msc and press the Enter key.
  2. The service management plug-in opens. In the list, find “Cryptographic services”. and open its properties by right-clicking on it and selecting the appropriate option from the context menu.
  3. Selecting the type of startup service "Disabled". and press the button "Stop"..

This is a temporary solution as the service depends on other services, when restarted Windows 10 will start and go into manual startup mode.

Method 2: Apply a registry tweak

This method essentially duplicates the first solution. It is less convenient and somewhat less reliable, as it requires a reboot, after which the stopped service can be automatically reactivated.

  1. Open "Registry Editor" To do this, run the command regedit in the dialog box that opens by pressing Win + R.
  2. Go to the branch HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CryptSvc, find the parameter in the central part of the window "Start". and double click on it.
  3. Change its current value to «4».

Reboot the computer and check the status of the service.

Method 3: Uninstall the service

The radical solution to the problem is to remove the service. This is an extreme option, as the action may cause problems with operating system functions. It is strongly recommended not to use it if you are not sure what to do.

  1. Stop the crypto service, as shown in Method 1.
  2. Run as administrator "Command line". o "Windows PowerShell".
  3. Run command sc delete CryptSvc.
  4. Open "Registry Editor", navigate to the indicated in Method 2 and be sure to back up the subsection "CryptSvc"right-click and select "Export". and specify the save path of the file REG.
  5. Delete subsection "CryptSvc" from the same context menu and restart the computer.

The service will no longer start, but after this intervention you may not be able to use some features, such as Windows 10 updates. In addition, the Service Management snap-in itself will crash and you will have to restore the deleted registry hive from your backup to be able to access it.
