Permanently disable the camera

You can disable the webcam in Skype permanently or only during a specific video call. First, let's consider the first case.

Of course, the easiest way to permanently disable the camera is to simply pull its plug out of the computer connector. It is also possible to disconnect the camera completely using the tools of the Windows operating system, especially through the Control Panel. But we are specifically interested in the possibility of deactivating the webcam in Skype, maintaining its performance in other applications.

To deactivate the camera, go to the menu sections - "Tools" and "Settings ...".

Once the settings window is open, go to the "Video settings" subsection.

In the window that opens, we are interested in the configuration block entitled "Automatically receive the video and display it on the screen for". The switch for this parameter has three positions:

  • of anyone;
  • only from my contacts;
  • None.

To deactivate the camera in Skype, we put the switch in the "nobody" position. After that, you have to hit the "save" button.

Okay, the Skype webcam is now disabled.

Turn off the camera during a call

If you get someone's call, but decide to turn off the camera during the call, it's pretty easy to do. You have to click on the video camera symbol in the conversation window.

When you do, the symbol is crossed out and the Skype webcam is disabled.
