How to install Windows 11

Once we have verified the minimum requirements, we can continue with the windows 11 free download. Microsoft's new operating system was officially released on October 5, 2021, and then you can download a updated version of the official website or upgrade to Windows 11 via the Upgrade Wizard or by creating an installation media:

More precisely, as you can see in the image above, you can upgrade to the new operating system in three different ways: through the Windows 11 setup wizard (which offers a wizard to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11), creating Windows 11 installation media (if you have a Windows 10 PC and want to do a clean install) or downloading the Windows 11 ISO disk image (allowing you to do a clean install manually). Let's take a closer look:

Windows 11 setup wizard

This option is for those who want to upgrade a Windows 10 PC to Windows 11. You must have a Windows 10 license version 2004 or later and your PC must meet the Windows 11 requirements listed above. Once you have downloaded the Wizard from the official website, you should:

  • Select » Run as administrator “;
  • Wait for the verification of the requirements and click on “Accept” and install”;
  • Reboot the device when the appropriate option is offered through » Restart now »To complete the installation;
  • Waiting until it ends installation.

Creating Windows 11 Installation Media

After you have downloaded the tool from the official website, you need to run it as administrator (right-click on the icon) and follow the steps given below:

  • Accept the license conditions;
  • Choose the operation to perform by selecting “Create installation media for another PC ”;
  • Select the language, edition and architecture for Windows 11 (x86 or x64) and then the medium you will use - you can select a flash drive, i.e. USB, if you have a USB with at least 8 GB of free space, or ISO archive if you want to download the image on your PC and then create a DVD with Windows 11;
  • Go to Windows Update and select » Search for updates “;
  • Connect the USB flash drive or DVD to the PC where you want to install the new operating system and reboot it through the newly created media. You may need to enter BIOS and select the correct device to start your PC. In this sense, we recommend our guide on how to change the boot order in Windows.
  • Proceed with the clean install of Windows 11, then delete the files that already exist on the disk where the operating system is installed, following the instructions on the screen.

Download the Windows 11 ISO disk image

If you choose the option "Download disk image (ISO) of Windows 11” of the Microsoft website, you will get an ISO image of the new operating system. You can mount the image on a virtual machine (if you want to test the system before installing) or burn it to disk or USB.

To create a Windows bootable USB, there are many programs that can do this.

We remind you that for the correct success of the operation you will need to have at least one 8GB USB available. Once the program has started, set these parameters in Rufus (or a similar program):

Now, to create a UEFI bootable media with Windows 8.1, configure the program as follows:

  • Device:  select your USB from the drop-down menu;
  • Partition scheme and target system type: » GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer »by UEFI system,« MBR »altrimenti;
  • File System:  FAT32;
  • Cluster size:  4096 bytes;
  • New volume label:  choose a label to assign to the device, such as Windows 11.
