How to fix Telegram problems on PC and mobile devices

How to fix Telegram problems on PC and mobile devices

Option 1: Windows

Let's first look at the Telegram glitches in the most popular desktop operating system and suggest methods to fix them.

Method 1: Check the Internet connection

Before moving on to the more serious part, it is advisable to check that your computer's Internet connection is working. The easiest way to check is by looking at the connection icon in the systray: if it has a yellow triangle or looks like a schematic globe with a cross, this signals a lack of connection, a problem that can occur for a variety of reasons. Read the guide in the link below to find a solution.

Method 2: Check server availability

If the internet works and you only have problems with Telegram, the first thing you should do is make sure that there are no glitches on the messenger's server side.

Go to DownDetector Telegram

    1. The easiest way to check is to use the DownDetector resource available from the link above. Once the page is loaded, look at the information box highlighted in the screenshot: if there is a problem with the messenger, it will tell you. It also doesn't hurt to check the error message graph and crash map below of the page.
    2. If this option does not work for some reason, it is worth using the operating system tools to check if the address is available. The first thing to do is obtain the address of any Telegram server - to do this, open any search engine in your browser and enter the query telegram server addressTake a look at the addresses marked in the screenshot below - we'll need them next.

Now invoke "Look for".... type. cmd and select the desired result.

When the command input window appears, type the following there:

      ping *адрес*

Instead of *адрес* enter the value of the second step and press I went into.

Wait for the execution to complete and check the result. If you see "Packets sent = 4, received = 0"it means that the servers are not available.

    3. A third method to check this is to use another device (eg a mobile phone), preferably connected to the same network as the host computer. Just go to the messaging app and check that it works: connection problems indicate that the Telegram servers are not available.

With a similar origin to the fault in question, all you have to do is wait for the support engineers to restart the servers.

Method 3: Reset DNS Cache

Sometimes it can happen that you are constantly switching between various Internet connections, such as mobile and Wi-Fi. This means that the operating system is not able to identify the correct one, which causes problems in the connection to the world wide web or in the programs that use it. This can be remedied by entering a certain command in the text interface.

    1. Using the method from step 2 of the previous method, open "Command line".but this time run it as administrator using the appropriate option.
    2. When the command prompt window appears, type the following and press I went into:ipconfig /flushdns
    3. When the console displays a message like the one in the screenshot below, you can close the text interface.

After doing this, your internet connection will drop for a while, and when the connection is reestablished, everything should work, including Telegram.

Method 4: Check your firewall settings

Users of the manager's client application may encounter an issue where a system or third-party firewall blocks their access to the Internet, thereby disrupting the operation of the program. Check your firewall settings and if you find any ban for Telegram remove it.

Method 5: Reinstall the client

Another measure that can fix Telegram performance problems is to completely reinstall the client application. It is advisable to uninstall using a third-party uninstaller to erase all residual data and registry entries. Then you just have to download the latest version from the official website and install it - the bugs should be fixed.

Option 2: Android

Historically, most of the Telegram messenger audience uses it on the Android platform, so users of this version are the most likely to encounter problems in its operation.

Method 1: Basic Troubleshooting

As in the case of Windows, the first thing to check to see if there are problems with Telegram on Android is that the internet and the application servers are working correctly. Look at the screen of your device and look for the mobile network and Wi-Fi icons: if there are problems with them, you will see a message "Only emergency calls". (cellular connection) or an exclamation point (wireless connection). There are many reasons why the Internet may not work on your Android device and they differ from variant to variant. In order not to expand the article, simply provide a link to the corresponding manuals.

You can only check the Telegram servers on the "green robot" using third party solutions like the aforementioned DownDetector. The use of this service is the same: open the link in any browser and follow the steps described in step 1 of method 2 for Windows.

Method 2: Clear the cache

It usually happens that the problem that prevents the Telegram client from working correctly is some data in the cache. This can be solved as follows (we will show the procedure using a clean Android example):

    1. Open "Settings". and go to section «Applications and notifications».
    2. Choose here. «Show all applications»then find the line corresponding to Telegram and click on it.
    3. Press "Storage and cache".
    4. Use item "Clear cache."In addition, we advise you to also stop the application (in the previous screen).

Start the messaging client again: if this was the problem, everything should work fine now.

Method 3: resolve notification issues

In a situation where the messenger itself works, but there are failures in the notifications, this could mean misconfiguration in both the client application and the operating system.

    1. Let's start with the program itself. Open it, then click on the three bars and select "Settings"..
    2. In the application settings, go to "Notifications and sound".
    3. Make sure that all switches on the unit "Chat notifications" are active, and if they are not, turn them on. Also check the block "In the Appendix". and activate, if deactivated, the toggle switches "Sound"., "Vibrosignal" и "Sound in the chat room.".
    4. The application should be normalized, but if it does not, it is convenient to check that the notifications are correctly configured in the system settings. Following the above method, open the Telegram page in the software list and select "Notifications"..
    5. Make sure the switch is active «Show all notifications from the Telegram app». Also on some devices (for example MIUI and EMUI), it is recommended that the "Internal notifications".

After performing these manipulations, restart the client application by pressing the key "Stop". and reopen it - notifications should now arrive normally.

Option 3: iOS

Apple's mobile operating system is known for its reliability and stability, so most of the problems with Telegram on it are caused by the app. The most common ones have already been covered in a separate article at the following link.

On the other hand, let us consider the situation in which the functionality of the messenger has been interrupted by a third party, that is, the services of a country whose authorities have blocked Telegram for certain reasons.

  1. The first way to solve the problem in question (and the easiest) is to use a special web version of the program, whose interface is as similar as possible to that of the featured application, but without its limitations. This works on all operating systems with Internet access: you just have to open one of the links above, and then you just have to log into your account. The subsequent use does not differ from that of an independent client.
  2. The second method is to use a dedicated VPN client. They are available for all variants of the current mobile operating system. The virtual private network configuration capabilities built into the operating system are also worth considering: in this case, no client is needed, the necessary functionality is already available Read more: How to set up a VPN on Windows / Android / ios
  3. A somewhat more complicated option is to use a proxy server to redirect traffic. In some cases, this method can be more reliable than a VPN, especially considering that all messaging clients support this configuration.Read more: How to configure a proxy in Telegram
  4. If only individual channels or bots (mainly iOS users) are blocked, you can fix this problem too, using the solutions suggested in the following article Read more: How to unblock a Telegram channel
