Solve error code 506 on the Play Store

Play Market is the main way to access new applications and update those already installed on your Android mobile phone or tablet. It is one of the most important components of Google's operating system, but its work is not always perfect: sometimes all kinds of faults can be found. In this article we will tell you how to fix one of them, which has the code 506.

How to fix error 506 in the Play Store

The 506 error code cannot be described as generalized, but several Android mobile phone users have come across it. This problem occurs when trying to install or update an application on the Play Market. It applies to both third-party developer programs and Google's own products. From this we can draw a very logical conclusion: the cause of the problem comes directly from the operating system. Let's see how this error can be fixed.

Method 1: Clear cache and data

Most of the errors that occur when trying to install or update applications in the Play Store can be solved by clearing the data of the proprietary applications. This includes the Market itself and Google Play services.

The fact is that it is these applications that during a long period of active use acquire the most amount of junk data, which interferes with their stable and smooth operation. Therefore, all this temporary data and the cache must be removed. For greater efficiency, you should also revert the software to its previous version.

    1. Any available method to open "Settings". from your mobile device. You can do this by tapping the gear icon on the bar, on the home screen, or in the apps menu.

    1. Navigate to the list of applications by selecting the item of the same name (or close to it). Then open the list of all applications by pressing "Installed". o "The outsiders".o «Show all applications».
    2. In the list of installed programs, find Play Market and navigate to its settings by simply clicking on the name.
    3. Navigate to section "Stock". (can also be called "Data".) and in turn press the buttons "Clear cache." и "Delete data".. The buttons themselves, depending on the Android version, can be placed both horizontally (directly under the application name) and vertically (in groups of "Memory". и Kesh.).
    4. Once you've done the cleanup, take another step back - to the basic Marketplace information page. Press the three vertical dots in the upper right corner and select «Delete updates»..

Note: In Android versions lower than 7, there is a separate button to delete updates, which you must press.

  1. Now go back to the list of all installed applications, find Google Play Services there and navigate to their settings by tapping on the name.
  2. Open section "Stock".. Once there, press the button "Clear cache."and then tap on the one next to it "Manage location"..
  3. On the next page, press thebutton. "Clear all data" and confirm your intentions by pressing "AGREE". in the pop-up window with the question.
  4. The last action is to remove updates from the Services. As in the case of Market, returning to the main application options page, click on the three vertical dots in the right corner and select the only available item - «Delete updates»..
  5. Now get out of "Settings". and restart your mobile device. After it starts again, try to update or install the application.

If the 506 error does not recur, trivial cleaning of the Market and Services data helped to get rid of it. If the problem persists, proceed to the following troubleshooting options.

Method 2: Change the installation location of the application

The installation problem may be due to the memory card used in your mobile phone, or rather, the fact that applications are installed on it by default. So if the drive is badly formatted, corrupted, or simply has insufficient speed class for comfortable use on a particular device, this can lead to the error we are talking about. At the end of the day, portable media are not eternal and sooner or later they can fail.

To find out if the microSD is the cause of the 506 error, and if so, fix it, you can try changing the installation location of the app from external to internal storage. Better yet, leave this choice to the system itself.

  1. В "Settings". from your mobile device, go to "Memory"..
  2. Click on the item. "Preferred installation site". You will be given three options to choose from:
    • Internal memory;
    • Memory card;
    • Installation is at the discretion of the system.
  3. We recommend that you select the first or third option and confirm your action.
  4. After that, exit the settings and launch the Play Store. Try to install or update the application.

Method 3: Disconnect the memory card

If changing the installation location of the app didn't help, you can try unplugging the SD card entirely. This, like the solution described above, is a temporary measure, but thanks to it you will be able to find out if the external drive is related to the 506 error.

  1. When opening "Settings". of your mobile phone, find the section "Storage". (Android 8) or "Memory". (on Android versions lower than 7) and navigate to it.
  2. Press the icon to the right of the memory card name and select "Eject SD card".
  3. Once the microSD is disconnected, go to Play Market and try to install or update the app that gave you the 506 error when downloading it.
  4. Once the app is installed or updated (and it probably will be), go back to your mobile device settings and go to "Storage". ("Memory".).
  5. Once there, tap on the name of the memory card and select "Connect SD card"..

As an alternative, you can try to disable the microSD mechanically, that is, by removing it directly from the installation slot, remembering to disable it first in "Settings".. If the cause of the 506 error we are talking about is on the memory card, the problem will be solved. If the problem persists, go to the next method.

Method 4: Delete and link your Google account

In case none of the methods described above have helped you to eliminate the 506 error, you can try deleting the Google account used on your mobile phone and reconnecting it. This task is quite simple, but in order to do it, you will need to know not only your GMail email or the mobile number linked to it, but also its password. In fact, in the same way you can get rid of many other common mistakes in PlayMarket work.

  1. Hate. "Settings". and find the element there "Accounts".. In different versions of Android, as well as third-party firmware, this option section may have a different name. For example, it can be called "Accounts"., "Accounts and Synchronization", «Other accounts», «Users and accounts».
  2. Once in the desired section, locate the Google account there and click on its name.
  3. Now click the button "Delete account". If necessary, provide confirmation to the system by selecting the appropriate item in the pop-up window.
  4. After deleting your Google account, without leaving "Accounts".scroll through the list and tap on "Add Account".. From the suggested list, select Google by clicking on it.
  5. Alternatively, enter your account username (phone number or email) and password by pressing "Next". after completing the fields. Also, you must accept the terms and conditions of the license agreement.
  6. After logging in, exit the settings, start Play Market, and try to install or update the application.

Completely uninstalling your Google account and reconnecting it should help you fix the 506 error, as with almost any Play Market crash that has similar causes. If that has not worked either, you will have to resort to tricks to deceive the system and sneak a software of an irrelevant revision.

Method 5: Install an older version of the application

In those rare cases where none of the methods available and described above helped to get rid of the 506 error, you just have to try to install the necessary application by bypassing Play Market. To do this, you will have to download the APK file, place it in the memory of your mobile device, install it and then try to update directly through the official store.

You can find Android application installation files on thematic sites and forums, the most popular of which is APKMirror. After downloading and placing the APK on your mobile phone, you will have to allow the installation from third-party sources, which you can do in the security settings (or privacy, depending on the version of the OS). Yes, these solutions cannot be called official, their use is not always safe, and the scope is much narrower, but they also have advantages. For example, in third-party markets you can find not only decent alternatives to paid programs, but also programs that are not available in the official Google application store.
